Locksmith Service - Locksmith Service Tips And Tricks About BurglaryLocksmith Service

Today we’ll discuss some more ways robbers and burglars are getting into homes and what you can do to prevent it.

  1. Be careful of what you keep in your car. If a potential thief sees that you have a garage door opener visible in your car they may break into your car to get the door opener and use your car registration to obtain your address.
Prevention: Keep your garage door opener and registration in your glove box (or some other container) under lock and key. Many glove boxes allow drivers to use the door key to lock and unlock the glove box. Keeping valuables and important information out of view will keep thieves from targeting your car first. They don’t want to break in on the off chance you have the information they want.
  2. Locksmith Service Tips And Tricks About BurglaryDog ownership! Burglars hate dogs. Simple signs stating BEWARE OF DOG may be helpful, but actually having a dog would be more beneficial. Dogs of all sizes can bark and barking grabs attention. It’s a double whammy if the dog (regardless of size) is territorial and loyal. No one wants to be bitten by any dog and robbers surely don’t want the neighbors to hear the dog barking. Dogs are like adorable alarm systems.
  3. Alarms and fake alarms. Some cars are fit with small blinking lights that resemble those of an alarm system. If an alarm system is installed, it can work with this light but if you can’t spring for the alarm, look for a way to install a small blinking light in your car. It may cause a robber to think twice about breaking into that car. Alarm systems are always a good investment, but sometimes fake car or home alarms can help.
  4. Let there be light! Homes with flood lights that are motion activated are likely to deter robbers.
  5. Dead bolt your doors! All doors leading to the outside should have deadbolts. These are tricky to unlock with a key for most people, but the added time someone would need to try to pick the lock or use a stolen key just might alert you and your loved ones to a problem. If possible, use a different key for the deadbolt than the normal door, that way if you’re concerned someone stole your keys it’ll take more time for them to figure it out. If you have problems with unlocking deadbolt locks from the outside, simply use them when everyone is home. Two locks are better than one.
  6. Talk to a locksmith and/or security company. Find out from local professionals the best methods for keeping unwanted company out. They should know, based on the crime rates in the area or the common services nearby, what you are likely to need. This could be routine lock changes, door locks, any level of electronic security systems, and more.
